Charities

When I wrote my book, I decided that I wanted to donate 10% of all profits to each of 3 charities, so 30% from all combined profits will be split between PFLAG Bakersfield, the Gay & Lesbian Center of Bakersfield and Ricky’s Retreat which is the Bakersfield AIDS Project.

There are lots of charities that I wanted to give to, but I feel like they get enough money from a national audience and I felt better about giving it to something that was more local because they are in desperate need of funding and I want to give them all the help that I can give them.

Update October 2012: Profits were very good for my first year, but the 10% for each charity was only $25, so that is what I gave to each charity.

Update February 2015: Sales from October 2012 dropped down to practically nothing, so over the last couple of years my sales were only $202. I am in the process of making donations. Since the donations would be $20 each, I’ve decided to double it, so I am giving them $40 each.

2/16/2015 I donated $40 to Bakersfield AIDS Project via PayPal at Martin’s Meats and Deli.
3/5/2015 I donated $40 via check to PFLAG Bakersfield
April 2015 I will donate $40 to the Bakersfield Gay & Lesbian Center
